Samuel Kalantzis bio
With a background in journalism which shows the potential to cover any topic from current news features, to in depth articles regarding war journalism, poverty and environmental issues, I believe my skills as a writer could be of great use to any company. Of course, I know I still have a long way to go but I love a challenge which enables me to never stop learning, making me prepared for any opportunity.
My interviewing skills are the highlight of my articles, as being an extrovert has helped me communicate with my interviewees easily, allowing them to get comfortable quickly and open up, which always benefits my articles. For the past four years I've been writing articles, either for my own page called SK Journalism, which on average gets around 80-100 views per article or for different sites I am currently writing for, such as Shingetsu News Agency (SNA), which averages around 4,000 views per article (limited by their paywall) or Central ByLines which last year hit 1 million readership. By consistently working on news pieces, not only am I keeping myself updated with worldwide affairs but also honing my writing skills whilst always keeping my SEO tools in mind.
As the world is now revolving around social media, I have also made sure to adapt to the times by running my own photography Instagram page called Skala_photography, which I started from scratch . The posts at times also have links to some of my environmentally focused articles, for those interested enough to read further into environmental subjects. Representing the collaborative use of different media platforms to raise more awareness on the issues helps me grow my audience.
The work I’ve completed with: Birmingham Eastside, Bloomberg, British Forces Broadcasting Service, SNA, The Borgen Project and Central ByLines, has shown me how to work as a part of a team, as well as giving me a taste of working within a company and getting used to their hierarchies. These experiences have made me better suited to begin working for a company part-time or full time.
Unfortunately, due to my personal economic situation, I currently work 30 hours a week behind a bar in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter as an assistant general manager in order to pay my rent and daily needs. Of course, if a journalism position paid me enough to support myself, I would instantly quit that job and focus all of my time solely on journalism.
With that in mind, I thank you for visiting my page today, as you hopefully leave whilst learning something new from my articles.
